Tropfest launched its inaugural Roughcut film symposium on Friday, December 7, 2012 to a sold-out audience at The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s landmark state-of-the-art Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
WHAT IS ROUGHCUT?
Tropfest spin-off event, Roughcut, was created to cultivate outstanding storytelling on screen and to foster a culture of dynamic and creative filmmakers, so it’s only apropos that the first ever Roughcut New York focused on the heart and soul of the filmmaking process – storytelling. The day’s programming delved into the thought process of creative thinkers and how each of their disciplines contributes to the filmmaker’s vision.
Roughcut Australia was also held for the first time in 2012 and featured an amazing lineup, including actor Geoffrey Rush and director Kieran Darcy-Smith.
Roughcut New York played host to an incredible lineup of industry talent who spoke in an intimate forum about the art of storytelling on-screen. The Keynote Address was given by best-selling author and journalist Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point, Outliers), in conversation with internationally-renowned screenwriter Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs, The Interpreter).
