New York – May 23, 2012 – TROPFEST, the world’s largest short film festival, announced today that singer-songwriter Alexi Murdoch, Doveman, and local indie-rockers Milagres will be the musical performers at Tropfest New York’s main event June 23rd in Bryant Park. The free event will be hosted by Hugh Jackman and will close the weekend-long celebration of the festival’s 20th anniversary, which will also feature the short film competition that night.On June 23rd, Milagres will perform songs from their 2011 release, Glowing Mouth, followed by an extended set shared by Murdoch and Doveman. Doveman will perform a short set of his own material, while Alexi will perform a full length set of songs from his 2011 album, Towards the Sun. DJ Concerned who navigates all fronts of music from funk to electro will provide the tunes for the event while Brooklyn’s Yah Supreme will be the acting emcee.
Alexi Murdoch is a singer-songwriter beloved by the film and television communities. He garnered recognition in the 2000s with his album Time Without Consequence. Released in 2006, it was one of the most licensed albums of the decade, receiving dozens upon dozens of placements – a trend that continued with his soundtrack to the film Away We Go (2009) and his recent record, Towards the Sun (2011). Tropfest marks his first New York live show in more than a year, his last performance was at the Allen Room in Columbus Circle for Lincoln Center’s prestigious American Songbook series.
Doveman, also known as Thomas Bartlett, will perform with a select group of collaborators. Bartlett is renowned as a sideman in his own right, having provided piano and keyboards for some of modern music’s most revered artists including The National, Antony & the Johnsons, Nico Muhly, Yoko Ono and David Byrne. More recently he’s taken on the role of producer, making records with Glen Hansard (Once, The Swell Season), Julia Stone, and Trixie Whitley.
