This week’s Friday Film was brought to our attention by previous Tropfest Winner, Steve Baker.
Here’s what Steve says about the film:
“This film is the first of a recently completed trilogy by Don Hertzfeldt (but works fine as a stand alone film).
Unlike most short films, this is not simple, rather it’s an epic feat of storytelling and artistry. I could throw every kind of adjective at this film – hilarious, frightening, painful, poignant, and so on… I wanted to showcase this one because after you’ve watched it, and are (hopefully) marvelling at the impact it had on you, remind yourself that you’ve just watched nothing more than a bunch of stick figures.
For me, Hertzfeldt is the finest filmmaker on the planet – I would never be foolish enough to call him an animator, he is a filmmaker. Enjoy.”
