The film that started it all …

We’re taking a different tack with this week’s Friday Film and thought we’d share something from Tropfest’s history that you may not already know about.
So here it is …. a still from the short film that inspired the idea for Tropfest way back when.

This is how John tells the story: ”Years and years ago, a friend (actually, a girl I was on a date with) told me about this short film she’d seen the night before. It had a huge impact on me. It struck me that there are so many stories and so many ideas that can only truly be explored within short film … and thats kind of what inspired the whole idea for Tropfest’.

It was only a few years ago that John actually tracked down and watched the film.
‘An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge’ is based on the short story of the same name by Ambrose Bierce. Directed by Robert Enrico, it won the Palme d’Or – Short Film Unanimité at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival and won the 1964 Academy Award for Live Action Short Film. It was later screened in the US as an episode of The Twilight Zone.

Watch the film here.
